Agenda Overview:

Walls, Raids & Travel Bans—What Texas Employers Can Expect Under the Trump Administration
Presented by Kevin Lashus, Partner at Fisher Broyles, LLP
In this presentation, Mr. Lashus will discuss the latest developments in immigration law under the current administration and give businesses practical considerations for compliance in immigration-related issues and what to expect in the future.

Successful Hiring: Creative and Compliant
Presented by Caroline Valentine, President of ValentineHR
Often, hiring managers are told what not to do in the hiring process—what not to ask and not to say during an interview by well-meaning employment attorneys and HR professionals. Ms. Valentine will focus on the “how to” of creating interview process and assessments that are practical and lead to successful hires.

OSHA Enforcement: What is the Current State of Play?
Presented by Frank Davis, Partner at Ogletree Deakins, PC
Historically, OSHA’s approach to regulation and enforcement ebbs and flows with changes in presidential administrations, and the resulting changes in policy, strategy, enforcement, standards, regulations, and even the law itself. The Obama administration’s mantra was “regulation by shaming,” and press releases branding employers as bad actors and placement in the Severe Violator Enforcement Program were routine. Will this continue under the Trump administration? During this presentation, Mr. Davis will discuss OSHA’s latest strategies with regard to policy, regulations and standards, enforcement, and litigation and settlement, and provide advice regarding dealing with OSHA under President Trump.

Employee Handbook Check-Up
Presented by Chris Wike, Partner at Hajjar Peters LLP
Just as it is highly recommended to see your doctor from time to time for a check-up, the same is true for your employee handbook. Mr. Wike will discuss the most common problems he encounters with employee handbooks and go through a checklist of what every good employee handbook should have, and just as importantly, shouldn’t have.
